Good photos let a buyer value your collection accurately without seeing it in person. You don't need a special camera. A phone in good light is enough.
The shots to take
- The whole collection: wide shots of shelves or boxes with the spines readable. One photo can show 100 records.
- Your best records: front and back covers of the 10 to 20 records you think are special.
- Labels: a close-up of the label on each side.
- Runout etchings: the small writing near the label.
- Condition: any scratches, warps, water damage, seam splits or writing on covers.
Tips for clear photos
- Use daylight near a window or one bright lamp. Turn off the flash, which causes glare on glossy covers.
- Hold the phone parallel to the record or cover to avoid distortion.
- Tap the screen to focus before taking the photo.
